The geological history of the valley, watered by the rivers cascading down from the surrounding mountains and the flow of the river Adige are responsible for a variety of soil types. This bountifulness, along with the variations in climate caused by the hilly landscape and the variations of exposure to the sun, promotes the cultivation of many types of vine in Vallagarina, thus offering a wide range of wines on the market.A number of international varieties find their ideal habitat in Vallagarina: Cabernet (Nogaredo area) and Merlot (Borgo Sacco area) are cultivated as well as Chardonnay (Prā dei Fanti area) and Pinot Bianco. In addition to these varieties, certain autochthonous vines are cultivated, such as Marzemino Gentile, emblem of this valley, cultivated in the Ziresi, Fornās and Isera areas; Nosiola, in the Vallunga area, and Moscato Giallo, in the hills in the Besenello area. More recently the international varieties, Müller Thurgau and Sauvignon Blanc have been planted, the former flourishing in the high-lying hills of Savignano areas, the latter enjoying the benefits provided by the sunny terraced vineyards on the right side of the river Adige.
